About Us & Our Shop
Hello! Thanks for dropping in. We are Doug and Roma Fox, owners of Backroad Relic Hunters. We have been hunting, collecting, buying, and selling relics from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War eras for most of our lives, and we wanted to take this opportunity to open our collection to buy and sell more artifacts right here in our hometown. We have met people from all over the country so far, but we also love the idea of being able to open our doors to the locals who might not know about the history that has taken place on the land right here, where
we spend our everyday lives. While we’re busy going to school or work, raising our families, and creating new memories on this land, we can’t overlook or rewrite the history of who came before us.
When you step through the doors of our shop, you will be astonished by the overwhelming amount of authentic artifacts we have collected here for your viewing. We have museum-quality displays of everything from small buttons and hooks from war uniforms to weapons, muskets, and cannons. We are very proud of what we have put together here at Backroad Relic Hunters, and we look forward to meeting you and sharing a little bit of history through our collection.
The Journey to Backroad Relic Hunters
Backroad Relic Hunters has been a long time in the making. The Fox family has been growing their collection for many years, all the way back to when Doug was in 3rd grade, about 50 years ago. He had a new fascination with hunting and metal detecting, and his birthday was coming up. He and his dad both had birthdays in April, and they both really wanted a metal detector. His dad told him that they could combine their birthday gifts and buy a metal detector together. The rest was, well… History! Ever since then, Doug and his family have made remarkable discoveries within the Tennessee Valley and surrounding areas, with one camp even found right in their back yard. Doug says if you know where to look and what to look for, the possibilities are endless on what could turn up right under your feet.
Every single piece tells a remarkable story, all of which Doug can enlighten you with. He is a wealth of knowledge in so many areas, but especially the Revolutionary – Civil War era history. It is a privilege to talk to him and such a blessing that he has opened his collection to trade with the public. The thoughtfulness and detail that went into this store is so apparent upon going through the shop and seeing the displays he has carefully placed together, with detailed descriptions of the items within each. You are doing yourself a disservice by not stopping by Backroad Relic Hunters and learning a little bit (or a LOT) of local history. Not from the area? You need to plan a trip.
